Defensive Coping Mechanisms

A defense mechanism is an act of coping mechanism that reduces the anxiety generates by threats from unacceptable impulses. Defensive coping mechanism is another way on how you are going to manage your anxiety. This will help you to be calm instead of panicking. In able to handle the anxiety some people use defensive coping mechanisms. This will help think more accurately and positively.

As a person you have to know the different techniques on how you are going to handle your anxiety. This can prevent your anxiety to be trigger. You can use defensive coping mechanisms to overcome the nervousness that you are feeling. That can be your guide and it can give you some ideas on how you are handling the anxiety in the right manner. In that, you will able to feel that you have the solutions to every problem.

5 Basic Defense Mechanisms

1. Denial. It is a rejection to accept the fact or the reality of life, pretending like the painful events, feeling or thought did not happen. This is considered as one of the most basic defense mechanism. Lots of people pretend and use denial in their everyday living to escape dealing with a painful areas and feelings that they don’t want to accept.

2. Regression. It is reversion to the earlier period of development in the face of undesirable impulses and thoughts. An example of this is, an adult might regress when he is experiencing stress will become refuse leave his life in his everyday activities.

3. Acting out. It is performing a dangerous behavior to express his thoughts and feelings. Instead of just throwing bad words to that particular person he has the tendency to throw the things that he see or near to him. In this the angry he feels will release and that can makes him feel better and calm.

Projection. This is misattribution of somebody’s undesired feelings, thoughts, or impulses onto other persons who doesn’t have those feelings, thoughts, or impulses. This used when the opinions are deliberated unacceptable to express.

5. Reaction formation. This is converting of dangerous or unwanted feelings, thoughts or impulses, into the opposite side. An example of this is a very angry woman who has a problem to his boss would like to resign instead of staying in her work forever.

All the defense mechanisms have its purpose. It can lead you to a better way and it can give you some lessons that you can use to improve your personality. All the things that can make you a better person must gained in order for you to avoid all the things that may cause you anxiety. Whether you have illness or haven’t you must give your very best to overcome your weaknesses. You must help yourself to acquire the attainment that you want. In that manner you will gain some learning that you have to learn. Disorder is not a big problem nowadays. Nothing is impossible in this time whether the issues about defensive coping mechanisms. You can have a lot of remedy regarding to your problems.
