Overcoming Acrophobia

Every person has his or her own fear in life. This fear is sometimes caused by some of the factors that lead into phobia. When you have the intense fear with something and you are feeling stress when you are near on the object because you’re afraid, you are experiencing phobia. This kind of situation includes fear with an object, situation or by different types of activities. To avoid stress, some persons will just avoid what they are afraid of to avoid stress and fear but phobias should not always stay in yourself because there will come a time that you need to face it.

What is Acrophobia?

One of the most common types of phobias is acrophobia. This is commonly experienced by those who have certain fear of heights. If you have acrophobia, you will experience panic attacks and rapid breathing especially when you are on the roof top or even when you’re just standing in the ladder. Acrophobia is caused either by traumatic experience and falling that cause injury or death. Experiencing such situation can truly cause negative impact in your life. It can affect your profession as well as with your everyday situations. That is why if you still can avoid, you must do your best to overcome it.

How to Overcome a Fear of Heights

1. Expose yourself to your fear by doing it in a slowly and gradual way. In doing this, you should not always force yourself instead start with the very simply step. Start facing your fear by standing on the stairs or in the balcony of your house, then if you think that you are a bit ready and comfortable you can now try extreme heights. You can ask your friends to come with you so that you can feel safer.

2. Just stays relax for you to think easier. If you really want to overcome your fear, you should always think that you can do it. Always take a deep breath and think that nothing bad will happen. If you’re nervous, it will never make you feel safer. Just stay relax and comfortable in what you are doing to achieve your goal of overcoming your fear.

3. Seek the help of the therapist and get some advice on him on how will you confront and control your anxiety. In that way you will learn how to manage and cope up with fear without being nervous and stress. When you learn how to control your fear, you will learn to be more peace and relax.

4. Avoid drinking too much caffeine because that is one of the most common factors that contribute in developing acrophobia. Limiting caffeine in your diet will help you reduce the symptoms of your fear and it will help you to confront your fear in a most relaxing way.

Fear should not always stay in yourself. You should always learn to face it for you to have a peaceful living. Seeking the help of your family and friends can also help you to easily cope up with your fears.
