Timothy Mcveigh Psychological Profile

Timothy James Mcveigh is the well-known Oklahoma City Bomber. He was born on April 23, 2968 at Lockport, New York. He died on June 11, 2001 at Terre Haute, Indiana. He is known to be a bank robber, homegrown terrorist and a mass murderer. His modus operandi was a fertilizer truck bomb. He was able to kill 168 persons, injure more than 860 people.

The Life of Timothy Mcveigh

The father of Timothy Mcveigh is William Bill Mcveigh, a worker in a car radiator plant and his mother is Mildred Mickey Mcveigh. He was raised by his parents in a small town in New York, located near the Canadian border. He was known at that time to be a pleasant and cheerful person. His grandfather involved Timothy in hunting and even gave him a firearm despite his very young age. He experienced bullying and created a fantasy world where he is taking revenge on all those bullying persons. During his teenage years, his parents divorced and his mother left home. After his high school graduation, he was able to enroll in a prestigious college, but later withdrew and started rebelling against the government. He even read some books from the rallyists in their place. Later then, he started a modus operandi which was the fertilizer truck bomb.

Serving in the United States Army

At the age of 20, he became part of the US Army as a gunner. He also tried to enter the Special Forces, but was forsaken for his psychological examinations.

Behind his act of terrorism, it is a fact that he has a psychological disorder. Killing and hurting numerous people is not normal for every person. Many people believe that he did that as an act of war over the federal government in US, but others believe that he is out of his mind during those times.

Reason for the Attack

He believed that all the weapons will be confiscated and taken away from the people, causing him to react with a mass bombing. He felt that there is a great need to stop the government from doing so and in order to do that, they did several rebellion activities against the government. He was also motivated since there are some people who served as followers and believers of him. At first, it seems that Timothy is not displaying any kind of disorder since he is still systematic, logical, organized and methodical. They believe that the rebellion will not be successful if his brain is not working properly by the time.

He said that he did that in order to be known as a hero, rather than being called as a crazy person. He thought that doing everything that he wants is the right and proper human act. He believed that he is always right and upon killing several persons, he will be able to stop the government or to make it think twice before confiscating the weapon materials from the public.

The Psychological Profile of Timothy Mcveigh

The psychological disorder which can be related to such acts of Timothy Mcveigh is schizophrenia. He did not hallucinate, but rather his thinking process bordered on the delusional aspect. His way of thinking is somewhat paranoid. It is not that observable since he kept on talking about the reality, but it is also a fact that each delusion has a tiny piece of reality and truth.

It is very evident for some persons with the said disorder to do some destructive acts because of their disturbed thinking. It is considered that people with this psychological disorder are more destructive than those normal ones. Symptoms of such disorder are not that observable since people with this illness are usually clever to hide the intense degree of their emotional disorder. To solve this disorder is surely not that easy and needs further analysis and understanding of the human condition.
