Waking Up Depressed

Waking up depressed once in a great while is probably not cause for alarm. The problem occurs when you find yourself waking up in a depressed mood across concurrent days. If the problem occurs for a prolonged period, then it might be time to take a proactive approach to the problem.

Waking up depressed is still something that has a wide variety of symptoms and causes. If you find yourself concerned about this event occurring too often, then understanding the symptoms, causes, and potential treatments can prove to be highly valuable information.

Why Do I Wake Up Depressed

In the first place, it is important to understand that waking up in a depressed state is not something that randomly happens. Depression in general is something people struggled to understand, and this is very much the case with people who wake up depressed. There are indeed symptoms and causes that should be considered.

Waking up depressed could also be called morning depression, which in turn can be referred to as diurnal mood variation. This condition refers to the fact that some people feel more depressed during certain times of the day. A great many people find that this condition occurs most frequently during the morning hours of the day, or when they first wake up. Although a person’s mood may improve as the day goes on, the fact that they are prone to waking up in a state of notable unhappiness is something that is not fully understood at this time. Many believe that diurnal mood variation occurs as a result of the biological circadian rhythm in the body being disrupted. Think of the biological circadian rhythm in your body as your body’s natural clock. If the clock is disrupted, it is not going to run properly.

The cause behind waking up depressed can vary wildly from one person to the next. For some, it can involve a change in the seasons. This is particularly true if the change in the seasons involves a person waking up to darkness, going to work in a place with no natural light, and then returning home when darkness has returned. This is just one possibility. Low blood sugar in the morning can also cause a person to wake up depressed, with feelings continuing on if that person feels depressed. Poor sleep patterns are common amongst these individuals.

Treating this can be difficult. Eating a good meal and sleeping well are two potential treatment options.
