ADHD and Boredom

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD and boredom have been subjects of many health discussions and arguments during these days. Some individuals are even left into confusion if the case is said to be ADHD or just boredom. There are still many essential topics that one should learn about the distinctions about ADHD and boredom. Paying more attention to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD, this is said to be one of the most common disorders in childhood years that can possibly continue to adolescence and adult years.

ADHD Subtypes

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD has three known subtypes and these are the following:

Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive
Most of the symptoms of ADHD fall into this particular category. Less than six symptoms of inattentiveness are present although this symptom can still be present in other degrees.

Predominantly Inattentive
The major symptoms are in this category and less than six symptoms of impulsivity and hyperactivity are present though these may still be present in other degrees. Individuals, most specially the children having this subtype are not that interested to act out or they find it hard to get along with other kids. They usually sit quietly in one corner but do not actually pay attention to the things they are doing. The children therefore are being overlooked making it hard for teachers and parents to notice that they have ADHD.

Combined Inattentive and Hyperactive-Impulsive
More than six symptoms of impulsivity-hyperactivity and inattention are present. Many among the children have this combined ADHD type.

Causes of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD

Scientists are not that certain with regards to the exact causes of ADHD but they strongly believed that genes play a dominant role here. Just like any other illnesses, this type of disorder, this is said to be caused by combination of underlying factors like environmental factors, genetics, social environment, and many more.

Genes
Based on studies, ADHD may run into the family. Researchers are evaluating several genes that make individuals more vulnerable to this disorder. Studies about these genes may somehow help researchers prevent symptoms from developing.

Environmental Factors
Studies revealed that there is a link between alcohol use and cigarette smoking to ADHD and pregnancy. Preschoolers who are being exposed to higher level of leads that are usually found in old building’s paint and plumbing fixtures are more prone to develop Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD. Other causes are food additives, sugar and previous cases of brain injuries.

Symptoms and ADHD Treatments

The key behaviors of this disorder are hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity. Inattention symptoms include being easily distracted, missing details, forgetting things, and switching activities frequently. Other symptoms of ADHD are difficulty in focusing and organizing tasks, having trouble completing homework, daydreaming, having difficulty processing details and information and more.

The recommended treatments are necessary to reduce symptoms and improve functions. There are several types of treatments for ADHD ranging from therapies and medications.
