Diathesis Stress Model Psychology

Diathesis stress model psychology is a psychological theory which tries to explain the behavior in the same way as the stress and vulnerability from life experiences. The word “diathesis” came from the Greek term “vulnerability or disposition”. It can also take up the form of psychological, genetic, situational, and biological factors. The wide range of difference of people only comes out in the middle of them and the vulnerability in the improvement of the disorder.

The predisposition or diathesis usually works together with the consequent stress response of a certain individual. Stress means that it is an event in the life that interrupts the psychological equilibrium of a person and it potentially acts as the catalyst in the development disorder. Therefore, diathesis stresses model psychology helps in determining how genetic and non-biological traits work together with the stressor or environmental influence in producing health disorder like anxiety, schizophrenia, and depression. It also emphasizes that when the combination of stress and predisposition go beyond the threshold, it is possible that a certain person will suffer from a health disorder.

Diathesis is the synonym of vulnerability. Vulnerability will allow or will not give a time in the development process of psychopathology when stress has been encountered. It is true that diathesis is considered natural among individuals and it is actually conceptualized on its stable and unchangeable condition. There are times that it is considered as latent or dormant because it is really hard to determine except when it is aggravated by stressors. Some of its examples are abnormalities in several variations or genes and genetic factors that usually cooperate in boosting vulnerability. Some diatheses are the loss of parent that occurred in the early stage of life and it can also be a conceptualized situational factor. Its examples are experiencing parent depression and low socio-economic status.

It is possible that stress can be a conceptualize event. When a certain person is vulnerable, it is possible that he or she will get depressed. However, it will not result to depression when he or she is exposed to a certain stressing factor. This is the time that psychological disorders will exist. Stressors come out in a form of discrete events like death or divorce. It can also be more serious factors like ongoing marital issues and long term illnesses. For the students, the word “stress” also exists primarily when they are experiencing difficulties in finishing their assignments.

The protective factors in diathesis stress model are truly significant because it can block stress and diathesis disorder. It can also supply a shock absorber against the effects of the main stressor through delivering adaptive outlets that can cause stress. With this information about diathesis stress model psychology, you will determine that this is not just a psychological theory. It tells you significant things about vulnerability and stress which is always present in the life of a certain person. Stress is one of the factors that can lead you to illnesses. You should make yourself motivated and energetic to avoid this situation.
