Home Inferiority Feelings

Inferiority Feelings

Inferiority is a feeling of being lower in status than someone else. It may be socioeconomically related, come from an internal comparison, or be fueled by a lack of self-worth.

Anyone may find themselves dealing with inferiority feelings from time to time. When these feelings occur, knowing how to manage them can reduce their impact. Here is what you’re going to want to do.

1. Confront your emotions.

There are two primary reasons for inferiority feelings. It arises from neglect and shaming, or it arises from a lack of success that others can achieve. Both involve low levels of self-esteem. Make a simple goal, achieve it, and then confront any negative emotions you experience.

2. Be yourself.

Do you want other people to fill the voids you see in yourself? Do you hide what you feel from others? Do you control people, blame them, or act compulsively? It is important to be yourself at all times. Even though it can be scary, don’t isolate yourself from the rest of the world. Show them who you are.

3. Find your talent.

Envy is often the cause of inferiority. Someone might have more money, or a nicer house, or a better talent – from your perspective. Narrow down the reasons why you feel inferior. They are often specific. Then, if necessary, create goals to achieve what it is that you want. There’s a good chance, however, that your talents and skills make others feel inferior as well.

4. Look for a coping skill.

People judge one another all the time. It is difficult to be on the negative end of judgments. Finding healthy ways to cope can stop feelings of inferiority rather quickly. Go for a walk. Write in a journal. Put a puzzle together. Talk to someone you trust.

5. Eliminate the negative.

Negativity breeds negativity. If you hang around negative people all the time, then your perspectives will often be of an inferior nature. Find positive people who encourage you to pursue dreams, follow talents, or work with you to build up new skills.

6. Keep going.

Don’t give up. You are special. It just takes a little time to realize that sometimes.

Inferiority feelings can be debilitating when they are strong. Take measures to manage them today, then keep using them. In time, you will recognize a proud and strong person in the mirror.
