Jeffrey Dahmer Psychological Profile

Jeffrey Dahmer is a serial killer who dismembered and murdered 17 young men from 1987 to 1991. When he was arrested, several skulls and body parts were found inside his apartment. After he has been arrested, he confessed all the crimes he committed and he also described in great details how he killed and dismembered them. If you will take a closer look at Jeffrey Dahmer Psychological Profile, one can see that such murders have something to do with this mental issue.

Jeffrey Dahmer Psychological Profile Relating to His Family

When Dahmer started studying, he was so avoidant and terrified. His teachers even told his parents that he was not showing any interest in schoolwork and was very shy. He was also growing more isolated and lack a parental figure. His father was very involved in his own activities and his mother was also suffering from severe psychological problems. Jeffry Dahmer also showed a very low tolerance to frustration.

His mother’s disease got worse and those conflicts within his family reached a very critical level. He also felt guilty of the sickness of his mother. He thought that he was the primary cause of the entire problems in the family.

His Psychological Profile

A psychiatrist who actually provided a diagnosis throughout the trial claimed that Jeffrey Dahmer was a psychotic. He has been suffering from a mental illness for a very long time. All his fantasies about making zombies were a clear evidence of such hallucinating beliefs. Another psychologist also testified in the court and he provided Dahmer’s picture as being a sadist maniac. He also added that anger and the aggressiveness are those feelings that pushed him to kill and the sexual desire was just a vehicle for such feelings to become externalized.

Social Incompetence

Jeffrey Dahmer’s father revealed that as a very young child, he voided an eye contact, and he showed difficulties in the interaction with others. He lack social skills and was emotionally distant. In spite such evident difficulty; there was no any concrete intervention that was provided to him.

His Killings

The cases of serial killing are sharing characteristics and commonalities – fantasy, anger, low self-esteem and facilitation. Jeffrey Dahmer can be categorized as a lust murderer and a Hedonic serial killer. Dahmer’s killings involved sex with his victims.

Many psychologists also examined Dahmer, and it occurred to them that Dahmer was evasive, resistant and manipulative. He also had a very long history of alcohol independence. He even used to drink during his classes, and he was obliged to detoxicate from it, however he never succeeded. As he was considered as someone who cannot build any type of relationship of others, his frustrations developed and ended up as hate and anger. He murdered those men due to the fact that he wanted to destroy any attraction he had for those men.

The lack of any interest in social relationships, emotional coldness, secretiveness and a tendency to live a solitary lifestyle is a pattern that is the same as those autistic children. His isolation from others and his peers could have increased his abnormal fantasies.
