Midlife Boredom

Women and men often tend to experience various symptoms related on midlife boredom. However, not all people believe in midlife boredom unless they experience it. Some may feel that they are like kids sitting at the back of the car thinking that other people will occupy their driving seat. After flinging up in the sofa or bed and having tantrum, they are looking for something else that will occupy their mind and heart. Midlife boredom often strikes because of sudden disinterest toward life and depression. This stage of life invariably gets guilt and bad feelings that lead to other-related feelings.

Common Traits with Midlife Boredom

Being impulsive is seen among people who experience midlife boredom. Although impulsiveness is considered as a good trait, it is not good in midlife boredom. Being bored in life results to being impulsive that often lead to bad or inappropriate decision.

Buying a luxurious or expensive car, undergoing on injections or getting a fancy someone are the most common impulsive acts. Other than that, even leaving a permanent job wherein one is good at with no job to go is also an impulsive act. Being in a satisfying and happy relationship and then, heading for another affair is one thing.

Apart from impulsiveness, midlife boredom sufferers also suffer from emptiness. The emptiness is brought by fear or dread of death and mortality. Realizing that there is much life in the previous years than the coming years makes one feel drained and emptied.

Signs and Symptoms

Other symptoms and signs of a midlife boredom include the drastic change in mood swings and habits. Adults who cope up at this stage often change their previous habits and need new challenges and schedules. Other people who suffer from a midlife boredom may seem angry or irritable without warning or justification.

The sleeping habits are also shifted from normal to oversleeping or inability in sleeping. Women are also obsessed with their appearances that unexpected changes occur in makeup, exercise routines, various styles of clothing and personal appearance. They also desire to remain beautiful and attractive to other people.

Replacing old friends with young friends is also done by mid-life sufferers. Nothing makes them feel old than having the same old and aging friends. Others are more likely to surround themselves with a circle of young friends that make them feel like youth.

The feeling of being stuck and hopeless is also a sign of midlife boredom. Many adults, women and men alike, think that they have less option in the near future. Some have thoughts of dying or death, obsession to death and depression. They also feel unhappy, miserable, blue and sad. They also find it difficult to focus on and accomplish simple tasks. Adults also suffer from the feelings of boredom and listless. Once a passionate hobby becomes tedious and dull, a lifetime devotion to spirituality becomes a boring and dull activity.

Acknowledging the crisis and thinking before making impulsive changes, midlife boredom can be overcome. Apart from it, using new ideas and thoughts in a coherent and positive way along with good attitudes can lessen the serious effects of midlife boredom. Talking with loved ones is also helpful in alleviating the pain in midlife crisis!
