Coping Skills for Hearing Voices

Are there times that you can hear voices even without someone who is talking to you? Are you hearing voices in your mind even if you are alone? Well… you are not the only one who can experience that kind of situation. There are many people who can experience the same in different parts of the world too. However, this kind of experience can be caused by different causes. Hearing voices can have different kinds of causes according to medical and mental experts.

Insight About Hearing Voices

An auditory hallucination or Paracusia is a form of disorder that associates perceiving sounds in the absence of auditory stimulus. The most common type of this kind of auditory illusion involves the perception of a voice or more. There are instances that this hallucination is associated with mental or psychotic disorders like mania or schizophrenia. Moreover, not all of the cases and persons who can hear voices have mental illness diagnosable.

Hearing voices has three main types and they often fall as: The affected person may hear a voice that speaks a thought, the affected person can hear voices that are arguing and a person who can hear a voice that is narrating and instructing him what to do. These three does not count all of the categories of hearing voices syndrome. There are also other auditory hallucination that includes musical ear syndrome and exploding head syndrome. Some of the reported most common causes of this disorder are sleep disorders like tumors, narcolepsy, abscesses or encephalitis. Others may involve epileptic activity or hearing loss.

What are the Coping Skills for Hearing Voices?

1. Do not isolate yourself – Always talk to other people like relatives, friends or colleagues. Don’t hesitate to share your experience. You might also try to join hearing voices groups and learn how others handle their ability or disorder. They can be the best form of support.

2. Do something about it – The only person who can best help you overcome this trouble is you. Though there are other people who can show support and can be at your side in your fight against this problem but the main responsibility lies in your own hands.

3. Raise your awareness – In order for you to do the best stuff to cope with the techniques in dealing with the voices that you hear, you should have to do your homework first. Just like what you are doing now. By reading this you are already starting to raise your awareness and you are already showing your dedication in dealing with your problem and how you want to handle it.

4. Try to master stress management – Stress and other sort of this kind can make the case even worst. Getting rid of situations that can trigger stress is best for you. If in case that is inevitable, what you can practice is to manage it so that you will reduce the tendency of the episodes of you hearing voices.
